Why is there more than one choice of service order?
Why is there more than one choice of service order?
Answer
Reform Judaism has always stressed the need to be able to concentrate on the prayers we recite in the congregation, but if we used every prayer available in the Shabbat service it would take many hours and it would be difficult to keep our attention. To keep the length of the service within bounds it is necessary to be selective in which prayers we take from each of the sections of the service. This also allows us to emphasise particular themes or ideas on a given occasion.
